Library Rules

General Rules

  • Students are required to present an authorized library pass upon entering the library during the day with the exception of lunch, break time or after the dismissal of school. Students will be required to sign a student register once a pass is presented.  Teachers, Principal or vice Principal are authorized to give library passes.

  • Patrons are required to turn off their cell phones when using the library.

  • Any loud, abusive, aggressive, threatening, obscene language or behavior will not be tolerated. The patron will be asked to leave the library premises.

  • Only six (6) persons per class will be allowed to enter the library at a time. More than six students will require teacher supervision. This rule will allow students from other classes to also have the opportunity to utilize the library.

  • Patrons are not allowed to move around furniture and equipment without approval from the library staff.

  • On completion of projects, patrons are required to dispose of their garbage (scrap paper etc.) before leaving the library.

  • Users are not allowed to enter the library premises with food and beverages including bottled water.

  • Loitering in the library or prolonged sleeping is prohibited.

  • A sign will be placed on the entrance door of the library indicating that a, “Library class is in progress”.

  • Users are not allowed to leave their bags in the library and be absent.

  • Users must upon entering the library, place their bags on the shelf allotted to them.  All users must safeguard their personal belongings, for example, their money, calculators etc.  the library staff will not be held liable for the loss of personal property.

Computer Rules

The laptops are the property of Mayaro Secondary School. Therefore, everyone must adhere to the following rules regarding their use. Based on the discretion of the library staff, any students refusing to follow these rules will be banned from using the systems for a specific period. Students must be given permission by library staff to use a laptop. Once permission is granted the student is required to sign the computer register which is located at the circulation desk.

  • The use of the laptops will be strictly for academic purposes and not entertainment. Additionally, all laptops will be constantly monitored once in use.

  • Patrons/students are not allowed to log on to Facebook, Instagram or any social networking site.

  • Patrons/students are not allowed to play games or view YouTube videos on the laptops. This is to avoid the risk of viruses and their spread to all laptops on the network.

  • Patrons/students will not save their work on the computer desktop. You will be required to have a flash drive for saving purposes.

  • Only one person will be allowed to use a laptop at any given time. This is to avoid crowding around the computer area.

  • Patrons/students are not allowed to research or view pornographic material. This is an offence and will be dealt with seriously. Remember, it’s a school environment.

  • Patrons/students should not tamper with the laptop settings/software or hardware. Any damages to the laptops will be referred to the Principal.

  • If a technical problem occurs while using the system do not attempt to fix it yourself; please alert the library staff. There are qualified persons on the school compound who will attend to the problem.

  • Once you are on a laptop, please do not encourage your friends to assemble. This will result in your being taken off the laptop. Once you are called upon to vacate the computer station do not hesitate. The library staff will inform you why you were removed.

  • After using a laptop, do not turn it off.

  • Students are allowed 20 minutes on the laptops on a first come first serve basis. Any extra time will be allowed at the discretion of the library staff.

Photocopying Rules

  • The Photocopying machine is there for student use only.

  • Photocopying will be done on a first come first serve basis and a pay first system.

  • Students will only be allowed to photocopy during lunch and break time.

  • During library classes no one will be allowed into the facility to photocopy.

  • If there is no library class, students wishing to make copies must have a library pass.

Cost of photocopies

50 cent per page - one side

$1.00 per page - back and front

Note all copies will be done on legal size sheets only.
